Hahndorf is located in Adelaide Mountain (Adelaide Hills), east of Adelaide, the capital of South Australia, about 26 kilometers from downtown Adelaide.
Hahndorf is also affectionately called the German town, the German village. In 1839, a group of Lutherans exiled from eastern Prussia founded the village and named it after their leader, Captain Hahn (Dorf means village in German), more than 170 years ago.
The town of Hahndorf is a famous tourist attraction in Adelaide and the oldest existing German settlement in Australia. Here, you can feel the rich German customs, the town is not big, but the scenery is beautiful, the roadside buildings still retain the style of a hundred years ago, the bakeries and sausage shops on the main street are filled with strong German flavor, and there are museums, art collections, handicrafts shops in the town. Antique shops, handmade candy shops, German supermarkets and so on. The most famous restaurant is a century-old Hahndorf inn (Hahndorf Inn), which used to serve both food and accommodation.
