2 Overview

Your entry fees directly fund the running of Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, as well as the operation of all of the conservation programs. You'll be able to visit the Sanctuary for the day, see the animals, join one of the daily tours and more.
Entry includes a free bag of kangaroo food and access to the daily tours. The roos roam free within the Sanctuary and are always keen for a good scratch on the chest and gentle hand feeding.

BONORONG - A SANCTUARY FOR TASMANIA'S WILDLIFE

Bonorong operates Tasmania's largest 24/7 Wildlife Rescue Service and their army of volunteers brings aid to thousands of suffering animals every year.

This service is funded entirely by the entry fees. This means every time Bonorong rescues an animal it is because someone like you came through the gate.

Bonorong is not a zoo – their aim is to get healthy animals back to the wild. All of them undergo meticulous assessment to ensure they are happy and healthy in our care, which is something they will never compromise on.

Every single one of the animals has a story to tell. At Bonorong you will meet animals that are extinct everywhere except the island refuge.

Their ever-changing menagerie of survivors includes wombats, devils, quolls, native birds, koalas, lizards, snakes and emus.

ANIMALS AT BONORONG WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

All the animals are with Bonorong for a reason, and they'd love to share their stories with you. Below are just some of the animals you may meet at the Sanctuary.

  • Forester kangaroos
  • Tasmanian devils
  • Wombats
  • Koalas
  • Sugar gliders
  • Eastern quolls
  • Sulphur-crested cockatoos
  • Yellow-tailed black cockatoos
  • Tawny frogmouths
  • Randall and Luigi the echidnas
  • Tasmanian bettongs
  • ...and much more!

DAILY TOURS

Full public tours are included in your entry fee and take place every day. The keepers will take you around to the wombat, devil and koala enclosures to provide information and an up-close experience.

Please note that sometimes the animals wish to remain hidden during the tour due to weather conditions (or just being nice and cosy in bed!). In these instances, the keepers may substitue for another species such as the echidna.

All public tours allow visitors to see the Tassie devil eat a snack and learn about their quirky personalities, as well as some of the threats they face and the efforts to help protect them.

One of the knowledgeable keepers will introduce you to some of Bonorong's favourite species and share with you their passion and concern for Tasmanian wildlife.

Bonorong not only does aim to entertain you, they are committed to ensuring that you leave Bonorong with the tools to help conserve Tasmania's unique wildlife.

What can you do to reduce roadkill? Or help the Tassie devil in its fight against disease? Visitors and Tasmanians alike can play their part in looking after the wonderful creatures.

To enjoy the wildlife at your leisure, we recommend allowing an absolute minimum of one hour to wander around the Sanctuary.
